The liberalization of online gambling is on its way in Spain. Indeed, the Council of Ministers just adopted various measures that will form a new law and be effective on January 1st.
Following the adoption of this bill, AEDAPI (Asociación Española de Apostadores por Internet) announced its satisfaction. Spanish operators can already apply for a license. However, the spanish association again criticised an unfair taxation, judged too high, with negative impact on the industry.
According to the AEDAPI, the 25% tax rate applied on the licensed operators’ net revenue will not allow them to compete against illegal offers.
Furthermore, the association points out the lack of games such as the popular slot machines on the list of approuved games in this new law to come.
