The IGT group, renowned slot machines builder, has purchased Double Down Casino, an app featured in our top 10 casino applications on Facebook.
Launched in 2010, Double Down Casino rapidly took the lead as the busiest virtual or terrestrial casino, as we covered in this other post. Last October, we mentionne dit was attaracting a million active users daily and 4,3 millions per month. Right now, there are no less than 4,7 million players who use the app monthly.
On Thursday 12th, IGT announced it had just signed an agreement to buy Double Down Casino for 250 million dollars, 85 million payable in two years and an extra 165 million spread in the following three years, according to specific financial targets.
Double Down Casino is now an indeniable success story, but has created some controversy too. Observers are not keen on the way it works. Of course, we are still talking virtual currency only here. Each day, the players receive 20,000 free chips to use as they see fit. But, if they want to play more, they will need to buy extra chips with real money this time. Facebook being used by a lot of children, it presents a risk of developing addiction for the youngest audience.
