Since January 1st, Denmark liberalized the market for online gambling activities. Recently, the government revealed some details about the first wave of licensing.

38 operators involved

The Danish Gambling Authority just issued a list of 38 operators who obtained the license. Starting next January 1st, when the new legislation comes into play, these operators will be able to propose online gambling services on Denmark ground, in full respect of the law. Among the licensed companies, 9 are national players ; 20 from Malta, 4 from the United Kingdom and 4 others from Isla of Man and Gibraltar. Some names are very familiar such as 888, Poker Stars, Betfair, Betsson, Cryptologic, Boss Media or even Roxy Palace.

Penalties for illegal websites

The Minister of Finance and Taxation, Thor Möger Pedersen, declares that now the new ligislation is applied, online gambling is fully regulated. Thus, unlicensed websites will see first a drop in their financial transactions, and then will be blocked before being simply chut down.
